Inspired by a water droplet, Brewo brings a new perspective to the timeless classical Pour Over Coffee Brewing method. The spherical filter of the upper part not only works as a second strainer that purifies the coffee by settling, but also creates a new medium for aromatic ingredients such as fresh mint leaves and cloves. Brewo’s eclectic design and its structure of natural and easy to clean materials that are porcelain, glass, and wood, bring an earthy touch to coffee brewing. Brewo is a new, practical, and stylish modality to make coffee.
Brewo, designed by Gokhan Ildiri, is a pour over coffee brewer that is suitable for both home and commercial use. Unlike traditional coffee brewers, it features a minimalist and modern design that exudes elegance and integrity. The materials used in this product were carefully selected for easy cleaning and hygiene. All porcelain and glass parts are dishwasher-safe, ensuring convenience for the user.
One of the unique features of Brewo is its nesting design. All the parts are designed to fit perfectly inside the package, providing advantages in terms of logistics and storage. This thoughtful design element adds to the overall practicality and functionality of the product.
The realization of Brewo involves the use of various production methods. The dripper and distiller parts are produced using the slip casting method with porcelain. The part used as a carrier and heat shield/cup holding area is made from extra clear glass using blow molding, cutting, and polishing processes. The wooden parts, such as the bumper between the distiller and the carrier and the base under the carrier, are produced using the wood lathe method.
With dimensions of h 32.5cm x d 13.5cm (max), Brewo is designed to be compact yet efficient. The package dimensions are h 25.5cm x d 15cm, making it easy to transport and store.
When it comes to functionality, Brewo offers a unique coffee brewing experience. Unlike traditional coffee brewers, the dripper drains coffee from the filter paper, allowing the water to flow under the pot. The water is filled into the pool, shaped like water droplets, which serves as the inspiration for this product. The sediment, which can pass through the filter paper, clings to the bottom, while the non-sediment liquid coffee overflows and spills out through the holes in the side surface of the water drop-shaped distiller, flowing dropwise into the coffee cup. This double filtration process ensures a pure and smooth coffee experience.
The Brewo project started in March 2016 in Istanbul and was completed in January 2017, making it ready for mass production. Throughout the design process, extensive research was conducted to understand user experiences and create a product that meets their needs. The choice of materials and sizes was based on this research, taking into consideration production costs and sales prices.
Despite its innovative design, Brewo faced some challenges during its development. Initially, the plan was to produce the product solely from porcelain and glass materials. However, due to safety concerns and the potential for accidents, wooden parts were added to provide balance and protection. These additions not only enhance the product's safety but also add a touch of warmth and natural beauty to the overall design.
Brewo has received recognition for its exceptional design. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2017 in the Bakeware, Tableware, Drinkware, and Cookware Design category. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. Brewo's integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and contribution to a better world have earned it this esteemed accolade.
With its unique design, practical features, and commitment to quality, Brewo is set to revolutionize the way we brew and enjoy coffee. Whether at home or in a commercial setting, this pour over coffee brewer offers a stylish and efficient solution for coffee enthusiasts everywhere.
